Community Acupuncture

About

Welcome to our MACHI Health Community Acupuncture Clinic, a high-quality, low-cost, trauma-informed acupuncture clinic aimed at supporting our wider community.

We understand the toll that chronic and traumatic stress takes on the body, the impacts on health, work, finances, relationships, and how you feel in your own skin.

With cost of living pressures and changes to NDIS plans, we’re working to support our community because we believe that supporting your health should not be a financial decision. This clinic is one small way we’re responding to help take the edge off, manage pain, and offer ongoing support in a more accessible way.

Whether you’re living with disability, impacted by chronic illness, are a survivor of sexual assault, family violence or other crimes — serving, caring or advocating for our community, or simply feeling the strain of today’s cost-of-living pressures, this clinic is for you.

Community Acupuncture With MACHI

  • Community acupuncture is often delivered in shared spaces, but we will be offering you private and semi-private rooms at Sage Medical in West Footscray.

Your session will take place in a GP consultation room with a massage table or sitting in a chair. You’ll have the room to yourself for the duration of your treatment, though you’re welcome to keep the door slightly ajar or open if that feels more comfortable. An electronic bell will be available if you need support—but we’ll also be nearby and checking in gently throughout.

When you book, you’ll receive an email with online intake forms. These forms help us understand your needs before your appointment and allow your in-person time to be focused and spacious. Your intake won’t feel rushed, we keep it simple so you can settle in and get the most out of your treatment.

These sessions move at your pace. You won’t be hurried, and you’re in control of how the session unfolds. Our priority is always your safety, comfort, and consent as we create a space to support whatever you’re navigating

    Accessibility
Sage Medical Center is wheelchair accessible

  • These sessions will be located at Sage Medical West Footscray

Address: 571 Barkly Street West Footscray Vic 3012

The glass door entrance on Barkly Street (Sage Medical) will be locked—we’ll let you in when you arrive.

  • Acupuncture points used in community sessions are typically located below the knees and elbows.

We recommend wearing loose, comfortable clothing that can be easily rolled up to your knees and elbows.

You’ll be lying on a massage table during your session, and you’ll be covered with a thermal blanket if needed. If you’re unsure or need to adjust your clothing once you arrive, that’s completely okay, we’re here to support your comfort.

  • Sessions are $35, and payment can be made via EFTPOS at the time of your appointment.

If you have private health extras that cover acupuncture or Chinese medicine, you may be eligible to claim a rebate. We’ll provide you with an invoice after your session, which you can submit through your private health fund’s portal.

  • Dr Jessica Strachan, an AHPRA-registered Chinese Medicine Practitioner, will be your lead practitioner on the day. Jess brings a deeply trauma-informed, body-based approach to care.

👉 Learn more about Jess here

On occasion, Jess may be joined by Dr Balvinder (Bal) Khaira, a General Practitioner who works closely with the MACHI community and shares a strong interest in collaborative, integrative care.

  • Our community acupuncture sessions are focused on supporting people navigating the impacts of embodied trauma, chronic pain, mental health challenges, and other conditions where acupuncture may offer meaningful support, particularly for our NDIS clients.

These sessions aim to support your body’s natural healing response by engaging the nervous system, stimulating vascular and fascial tissue pathways, and creating space for deep rest.

    Acupuncture may assist with:

    • Musculoskeletal pain or tension

    • Fatigue and sleep difficulties

    • Stress, anxiety, and trauma-related symptoms

    • Headaches, menstrual discomfort, and digestive concerns

    • General support for grounding, rest, and postoperative recovery

If you’re unsure whether this clinic is the right fit for your needs, please don’t hesitate to reach out—we’re here to help.
