Healing doesn’t stop when the scar closes

A caesarean birth is major abdominal surgery, performed during one of life’s biggest transitions.

In the weeks that follow, much of the focus is understandably on caring for your baby, protecting the incision, and watching for signs of infection.

While these are all important, many women are surprised to find there is very little guidance about caring for the scar itself once the skin has healed.

For some, recovery feels straightforward. For others, the scar may continue to feel tight, numb, sensitive, or disconnected long after the initial healing period.

You may notice pulling through the lower abdomen, changes in the way you move or breathe, or simply feel like your body doesn’t move quite the way it used to.

These experiences are common, and every recovery journey is different.

WHAT TO EXPECT

At MACHI Health, Scar Release Therapy is a gentle, hands-on treatment designed to support comfort, mobility and reconnection following abdominal surgery.

Rather than focusing only on the scar itself, we consider how the surrounding tissues, your breathing, movement patterns and nervous system all work together.

Treatment is always tailored to your individual needs and may include gentle manual therapy, acupuncture, cupping, gua sha, breathwork and personalised home care.

Our aim is to support healthy tissue mobility, encourage comfortable movement and help you feel more connected with your body throughout your recovery.

Although many of our clients seek treatment following a caesarean birth, Scar Release Therapy may also be appropriate following other abdominal surgeries, such as hysterectomy, bowel surgery, laparoscopy, endometriosis surgery, abdominoplasty and other procedures that result in abdominal scarring.

Whether your surgery was a few months ago or many years ago, we’re here to support your recovery in a way that feels gentle, informed and individual to you.

REASONS PEOPLE SEEK THIS WORK CAN INCLUDE

You might benefit from a scar-focused treatment if you experience:

  • Tight sensation or pulling on or around the scar

  • Tingling, numb or altered sensation

  • Feeling disconnected or stuck around the lower abdomen

  • Discomfort during exercise or everyday movement

  • Hip or lower back pain or tension after birth

  • Avoidance or hesitation to touch your scar

  • Trouble reconnecting with your breath or abdominal muscles

These experiences are not uncommon after abdominal surgery, and they can vary widely from person to person. For some people, they settle over time. For others, they remain present and may prompt a desire to explore supportive care options.
