Postpartum Acupuncture
BY JESSICA STRACHANHello new parents, welcome to the wonderful and very sleep deprived world of parenting.
I’m Jess from MACHI Health and there is nothing I love more than caring for new and expecting parents and providing traditional medicine lifestyle tips that can really make a difference for life after labour.
Chinese medicine has a rich history in the treatment of women, understanding that the demand on our body’s through hormonal changes, pregnancy, postpartum and menopause greatly impacts our vitality.
These next 3+ months postpartum can be very challenging if the body is already really run down or lacking a strong supply of blood volume.
You’ve put in the hard yards growing and birthing your new baby and healing after labour, it makes complete sense that this hard work can impact the milk supply, bowels, sleep and mental health. Throw in external sleep deprivation, low immunity, random sweating, slow healing or infected wounds, and a changing body and baby, and you can see how hard it can be to recover that blood supply when there is more leaving the body than being retained.
Even if you have all the support, it’s an incredibly tough time and you are a true superhero in all sense of the word.
This is where we come in and have your back, listen to all the challenges and guide you through this transition with tailored care, postpartum acupuncture, chinese herbal medicine and diet and lifestyle therapy.

POSTPARTUM ACUPUNCTURE FAQSCAN I BRING MY BABY TO MY POSTPARTUM ACUPUNCTURE SESSION?Yes, our cozy and quiet clinic space offers you a massage table to rest solo or a floor futon to rest comfortably with your new baby, avoiding the need for baby sitters. Once baby is on the move, it does become slightly more challenging, unless naps align. Generally speaking, if it works for you, it works for us.
CAN I USE ACUPUNCTURE TO INCREASE MY MILK SUPPLY?Acupuncture has an holistic way of treating the body, if there is low milk supply our job is to understand if there is current loss occurring, this might be frequent and spontaneous sweating after labour, very frequent urination, loose bowels (which might be from the stool softeners), and ongoing postpartum bleeding.
We then look at how the body is nourished, if you have a desire to eat and if there is desire to drink, and then what you’re putting in your body.
We use acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, supplements and traditional diet and lifestyle advice to support your body to rebuild postpartum, giving you all the tools you need to build your milk supply.
